Just west of Berlin, Hamburg is one of Europe’s largest and major ports. It sits right on the Elbe river, which is just one of its many (many!) bodies of water all around this city. So much so that it has about 2,500 bridges to cross over them, more than any other city in the world. Visit the Alster Lakes, once a water reservoir to power old mills and now a place where people come to enjoy the outdoors, you’ll find kayaking, biking and other fun maritime activities. There is also a great deal of rich history here: The huge 18th century Church of St. Michael, with its beautiful architecture from the Baroque period is a marvel – and a great photo op. And when you’re ready to unwind, walk down the streets of the Reeperbahn, a vibrant and well-known entertainment street in the St. Pauli district, also famous for its red light district.
